100 points of ID and job applications
It doesn’t matter what job you’re going for, at some point in the application process you will be asked to present 100 points of identification. Simply put, this is so your potential employer can have proof that you are who you say you are. This is especially important for care and support roles, as you will be working with vulnerable members of the community.
By presenting the correct identification at the outset, you will appear more prepared and proactive to the employer. This may even give them the confidence to choose you over other applicants. Being prepared can also help speed up the process, and get you into work as quickly as possible.
What constitutes 100 points of ID
What constitutes 100 points of ID can actually be quite confusing, especially for those not used to the system. And it doesn’t help that each guide on the internet has different ways of phrasing and categorising requirements.
The easiest way to be sure you have the identification required is to download our handy checklist – you can tick off your identification and add up the points. Once you reach a 100 or more points you’re all set!
Always remember one item MUST be photo identification.
What we recommend
Here are some common combinations of ID documents that we receive at Newly. Use these as a reference and you’ll most likely find one that works for you!
- Passport or Birth Certificate (70 points) and Driver Licence (40 points)
- Passport or Birth Certificate (70 points), Medicare Card (25 points), Bank Card (25 points)
- Passport or Birth Certificate (70 points) and Working with Children Check (40 points)
- Driver Licence (40 points), Bank Card (25 points), Medicare Card (25 points) and Bank Statement (25 points)
Additional documentation
Whilst the above combinations are generally the easiest forms of ID to locate, there are times when you should bring along more specific identification to suit your situation. If you’re not an Australian Citizen, you should always bring your Passport or Visa Documents (preferably both) as identification.
Why? Because employers will eventually need proof of your eligibility to work within Australia, as well as your working rights and conditions. Also make sure you are familiar with the working conditions on your visa. Understanding the specific details of your visa will give employers the confidence to proceed with your application much faster.
Phew! This should pretty much cover all that you need to know about identification and what documents will give you 100 points.
