So you’ve just landed an interview with a great employer – you’re nearly there! But there is still some work to be done to ensure that the interview was a positive experience for you and the employer.
In this 3 part blog series we give you our best tips to make sure that you nail the interview and give yourself the best possible chance of getting your dream job in Aged and Disability Care.
In Part 1 we look at what you need to do before the day of the interview, as this can be just important as the interview itself – preparation is key!
Research the Organisation
One of the first questions that you’ll be asked in an interview is: “what do you know about our organisation and why do you want to work with us?” Employers want to know which of their candidates are serious about working with them, and the way to do that is to see who has done their research.
Before you walk into an interview make sure you’ve done some research into the organisation. Try to know a bit about their history, what their values are, and about the facility you’ll potentially be working at (if you’re doing residential care). On top of this know why you want to work for them. Take some time to think about this before the day of the interview and link their organisational values into your answers. Employers will be wanting to see that you have put in some effort into preparing for this interview – it will reflect really well on you.
For this, the internet is your best friend. The website of whichever organisation you’re having the interview with will provide you with enough information. The “About Us” section of any of these websites will be the perfect place to start.
Know Person-Centred Care
Person-Centred Care (also known as Client-Centred Care or Patient-Centred Care) is something that’s becoming increasingly prevalent in Aged and Disability Care, and it’s extremely likely that an employer will ask you about it in an interview.
So what is it? Well, it’s client focussed meaning that all the carer’s actions revolve around what is best for each individual person that they are looking after. Basically it’s a holistic approach to caring, with a focus on treating clients as human beings as opposed to a task.
We wrote a blog earlier this year that takes an in-depth look at what Person-Centred Care is. Click here to read it so you can have the knowledge required to impress any potential employer in Aged and Disability Care.
So there it is! The key things that you should be doing prior to the day of the interview, to give yourself the best chance of nailing it.
In Part 2 we’ll give you some tips about what to do on the day of the interview!
